Things to Come opens with a near-future forecast of Christmas 1940 in the metropolis of Everytown (obviously London), a city threatened by world war. Pacifist intellectuals, such as John Cabal (Massey), try to turn the tide. But Cabal's efforts go unheeded by the self-interested classes, and war arrives with tanks and aeroplanes and gas bombs. Everytown is destroyed by air raids (dramatically enacted four years before the real thing). The war continues for thirty years, its original purpose forgotten. As a result, civilization degenerates while "the Wandering Sickness" and devastation accelerate the spiral down until 1970, when the world has crumbled into a balkanized "Mad Max" Dark Ages. Everytown is ruled by a barbaric warlord, the Boss (Ralph Richardson), as the war continues on a Medieval scale.

wonderfull movie
this is one of the greats of sci fi and a land mark movie 10 out of 10 for the film as a whole, this version though is very dark for some reason but as a bonus its 94 mins were the others are 92 and the longest known is 92 it is a different version may be it does not have the london films at the beginning and starts with H.G.Wells logo at the start, the film is 2 mins longer i didnt see any extra footage but maybe i missed it, its still longer even without the london films logo which the others have, the original run time for this in 1936 is 117mins which was cut to 113 then to 108 which it kept till 1946 then was trimmed down to 74mins i think all UK run times, the film has had a few incarnations on dvd and vhs and tv including one with stills put in to show the missing footage, but 92min pall is the longest available as the BFI have not released their version with the extra footage they have uncovered
